Live mix album from drum n bass legend LTJ Bukem, recorded in Munich. MC Conrad working the mic throughout. Kind of a peculiar style for an MC: lots of singing and very little rhyming. To me, the freestyle rhymes are some of the best parts of live d’n’b, so I was a bit disappointed with the MC. But he’s got a distinct voice (sounds to me like he’s got a head cold), so see for yourself. The actual music is high energy while remaining bright, at times deep, with an assortment of jazzy elements scattered throughout. Best tracks: 5, 8 Track 1: 1-minute MC intro faded into song mid-set. MC Conrad active on this one. Track 2: Supposed to be the first single. It’s OK but MC’s singing is a little grating Track 3: Very nice bassline…tight & climbing, solid beats. See above on MC. Track 4: Jazzy and pumpin’. Bukem settling into a groove. Track 5: SWEET. Highlight of the album. Simple funky wah guitar riff and savage rolling bassline. MC Conrad really feeling it here, too, and adding energy. Play! Track 6: Back to the deep jazzy stuff with thumping bass. Female diva vox sample. Track 7: Smooth trumpet riff drives this. Wish MC Conrad wouldn’t sing through it. Track 8: Now we’re getting into the freestyle rhymes. Quality!! VERY GOOD Track 9: Getting hard. Peter-gunn style brass riff. Track 10: Spacey, some strings in background. Track 11: Really cool techy percussion. IMO One of the better tracks. Smooth. Track 12: Bukem turns the corner and eyes the finish line. Nice rhymes at the end. Track 13: First 1.5 beatless minutes give way to a psychotic bassline Track 14: Starts with pure d’n’b, no frills, and builds to a nice ending. Vox sample. |
