Yo Miles! (Henry Kaiser & Wadada Leo Smith) - Upriver Yet another set from Kaiser & Smith’s early 70s period Miles Davis cover band. I respect that there’s a lot of excellent musicians on here and the tunes are competently played, but there’s really no reason not to just reshelve this, head to the Davis section of the library and pull out “Jack Johnson” or “Agarta” or “Get Up With It” or any of the 100 other remastered discs put out from that period. In fact, there are several reasons not to play this, the most prominent being Michael Manring on the bass. You’ve been warned. Ben B 2/1/04 |
