Fred Lonberg-Holm – Dialogs
Fred Lonberg-Holm is a Chicago cellist who’s played around the free jazz scene as well as with bands like God Is My Co-pilot and the Flying Luttenbachers. This disc is much more in the abstract improv camp, certainly not out of place on the Emanem label. I don’t think I can do better than the liner notes in describing this one: “If music is sex on the beach, Fred is the dirty sand.”
1. Flutteringly buzzing
2. Feedback alternating with scraping
3. Almost tuneful scraping
*4. Crackly feedback
5. Quiet, organic scraping builds to vicious bowing
6. Long, with songlike structure
*7. Thick long tones
8. Sparse open space
