Happy Apple – The Peace Between Our Companies

Happy Apple is back! A pleasant surprise considering drummer King signed up with “it” band The Bad Plus a few years back. Thankfully, they return in excellent form with a set of indie jazz ranging from abstract improv to all-out wailing. Saxophonist Lewis has a lush, pretty tone which gives the slow numbers a dreamy feel, while King’s forceful drumming leads the louder tracks. Great stuff!

**1. Upbeat burner
2. Abstract start, then flighty ballad
*3. Looong twisted head, then stops just as the solos are about to take off
4. Lush ballad
5. Jazzy but still pretty twisted
*6. Very slow start, builds to a nice groove with powerful solos
7. Slow and tender
8. High energy rock
