71-year old trumpet player paying tribute to another master of Cuban music, Arsenio Rodriguez. Mirabal is joined by Orlando Lopez, Papi Oviedo, Ibrahim Ferrer, Ruben Gonzalez and a host of others. There are 3 trumpet players on this, so you can predict that it gets brassy at times. But it also includes great piano, sax, perc, and vocals. I liked it all. It evokes a sort of late night in 1950’s Cuba feeling. Waiter? Another round of drinks, please. *1. Sexy midtempo dance that’s just delicious. 2. Bright & brassy w/great interplays from all. Midtempo. *3. Slow, lush, romantic then a jazzy & late night thing. 4. Relaxed cha cha with lots of great touches from all. 5. Voices/piano/horns/percussion. Nice energy. *6. Playful & lively w/great work from the band. 7. Slow love song w/a nicely retro feel. 8. Sax/vox/perc/horns. Sexy midtempo jazz. 9. Bright & warm. Mid/uptempo, catchy. *10. Great medley, mid/uptempo strong performances all round. *11. Lazy then lively. Fun and too short. |
