Pre-MX-80 Sound member(s) project from 1975. Mostly low-fi pre-indie, “diy” four track recordings. Simple songs, some samples, some studio-comedy. Cool stuff, especially in light of how cool MX-80 became (check our vinyl section). Those familiar with MX-80 will immediately recognize the sax and the vocs, characteristically insincere, ironic/sarcastic in their delivery of “deep” themes. While MX-80 blended prog and jazz complexities w/ their driving rock this is definitely more along the lines of Young Marble Giants or some other minimalist songsmiths, when not doing their best to fill out the tracks with fun pop.
1) old time and temperature phone-recording, brief
2) minor toned, pensive
3) silly dialog about a “chick”, w/ sparse guitar and sax
4) acoustic guitar, female vocs w/the guy, some sax appears later
5) another simple song
6) jazz dissonant sparse guitar lead in, followed by sax and disjunct beat, weird, very MX-80
7) brief sample, recording
8) simple flute/recorder accompanied ditty
9) fuzz guitar strange little song w/ female vocs
10) noodly lofi percussion jam w/ sax, etc, instrumental
11) radio comedy, about being in college, “WMLO” LID, dialog Asharama bakery, etc
12) “work is hard”, simple rock (FCC? Is that a brief “shit”?)
13) upbeat proggy feel
14) slower swing, silly
15) FCC- a “shit”, studio comedy, like standup vaudiville
16) brief silly little ditty
