Ravish Momin’s Trio Tarana – Climbing the Banyan Tree Great world-influenced improvised music, this set straddles Downtown jazz, Eastern & Middle Eastern folk and modern classical for a thoroughly engaging sound. Momin has a powerful drumming style which drives Hwang’s jagged violin and Blumenkranz switches off between bass and oud (which gives the group a funkier or folkier vibe respectively). Don’t pass this one up, all tracks are superb! *1. Powerful groove led by drums **2. Funkier rhythm with strong violin *3. Airy world melody with oud **4. Klezmery groove with great solos **5. Stuttering rhythm section backs great violin *6. Pretty oud solo **7. Excellent percussion with cool vocalizations *8. Bouncy folky rhythm 9. Slow, searching ballad Ben B 3/14/04 |
