VIC CHESNUTT • GHETTO BELLS (new west) Song troubador Vic Chesnutt brings us his 10th solo record and it is a dooozy! Amazingly epic sounding record with super creative arrangements. Accompanied by some hi-end players including Bill Frisell and Van Dyke Parks this record soars with brillance. Quirky, dark, earthy songs that fucking move the shit out of me. Scuse me I gotta go to the bathroom. Play this record there is truly magnificant. - tHE bAWD oF euphony 1** (5:00) Warm strings lead this song with some Frisellian guitar textures. Spacious and swingy 2 (4:00) slower and deep piece. Great sounds with very original style 3** (4:45) I love this song. Very weird dialog between Vic and his Backup vocalists. Funny, quirky but very moving as well. Slow build, beautiful. Very Lenard Cohen. 4** (3:50) MY favorite of the record. Moody and dark. Weird long vocal lines from Vic. Fucking heavy Guitar sounds take over. Very powerful! Love it! 5* (4:20) Earthy percussion, warm guitar and vocals. Lots of Frisell. A ballad of sorts. 6** (7:33) Another favorite. Heavy Frisell guitar loopyness. Moody and deep. Vic croones the shit out of this, really beautiful! Play this now! 7* (3:00) Tom Waitsian kind of stomp. Heavy Hammond organ and slow drum stomp. Epic as hell. 8** (6:24) Slow brushes and beautiful vocal harmonies. Very open and spacious. Beautiful 9 (6:59) Slow groove and guitar line with vocal and accoridan work. Enchanting. 10** (3:03) Vic playing vocal trumpet, very cool. Acoustic guitar and vocals take over. Broken down ballad. Very unique. 11** (5:10) Anotehr fav. Marimba intro. Dark and spacious guitar and double bass. Groove comes togther out of blackness. Falsetto vic takes over. Great Feel | ||
