Craig Matsumoto Reviewed 2005-04-23 | ||
Free improvisation knitted from small, quick sounds -- clicks, clanks, metal rubbed against strings, quirky electronics, various noisemakers. European visitor Fuchs headlines with pops and bleats from a bass clarinet (and sometimes saxophone) while the rest of the band is comprised of Bay Area folks, including the late Matthew Sperry. Abstract stuff well reflecting the "out-jazz" improv that's a big part of the local scene. 1,5- Fast-paced albeit sparse, with a quirky sound. Fuchs, presumably on bass clarinet, provides a chirpy background sound, occasionally providing a long low SWOOP amid the scribbles and plinks of the other players. 2- Playfully cautions; slow and often quiet. Does have a busy segment in the first few minutes and another towards the end. 3- Slow, with groany otherworld noises and alien low tones. Second half starts with a long quiet drone, slowly building. 4- Particularly busy. Slows down for the last couple minutes. 6- Quiet and low. Ends with slow groaning. |
