Hip-hop, Arabic love songs, trance drumming, Afro-funk, it’s all here. Typical good “Rough Guide” notes provide lots of info on Sudan, the artists, and their music.

1. Slow & evocative blend of oud & female voice. Lovely.
2. Male vox/oud/violins/drums. Fairly quiet, traditional tune.
*3. Children voices, beats, anti-war hip-hop. Very cool.
*4. Horns & vocals. Really good, midtempo funk.
*5. Male/female vocal duet. Drums/guitars. Midtempo funk.
6. Balafon, drums/male vox & female chorus. Fast & driving.
7. Fascinating. “Zar” drum/chanting/trance ritual.
8. Nicely orchestrated Afro/Arabic sound. Midtempo.
9. Male voice, drum & oud. Downtempo, melancholy.
10. A live performance. Strings/perc/soaring vox. Mid/uptempo.
*11. Great oud, male vox. A strong traditional sound.
12. Call/response female voices. Trills, claps, perc. Lively.
13. Call/response female voices. Midtempo w/a nice shrillness.
14. Spare, kind of quiet oud/male vox. Slow & serious.
