STEEL PULSE – “True Democracy”
Elektra/Rhino, 1982

UK – Reissue of a classic album by Britain’s #1 reggae group, after their punk-darling period but before going all-out with the synths. Some strong moral and political content lurks in these poppy bubblegum grooves; if you missed these cuts the first time around, you gotta check ‘em out now.

FO’S PICKS: 2, 4, 5, 9 (but no duds here)

1. intro skips, then a Biblical bounce
2. goodtime classic, bubbly beat
3. solid bounce, positive message
4. steady and firm, about murders
5. SP’s awesome rasta anthem!
6. strong beat, against adultery
7. rock tinge, about illegal niteclubs
8. love song with a steady beat
9. bubbly groove, against booze
10. dub version of track 5
11. the 12” single version of track 2
12. the 12” single version of track 6
13. dub version of track 8
14. dub version of track 4
