Taha (from Algeria) is the ultimate “slash” artist. Punk /rock/ rai/ electronica/classical. Tekitoi (“who are you?”) blends it all with a solid techno rhythm and energy for days. It’s sexy, serious, angry, playful, humorous, and so damn good. Really great stuff. **1. Wicked groove “dialogue” between a French & an Algerian. **2. That fantastic, ironic, iconic cover of Rock the Casbah in Arabic. 3. Female chorus, strings, perc. Mid/uptempo, driving. Cool. *4. Funky, catchy w/strong vocals & a great groove. 5. Opens slow, strongly Arabic – then he unleashes his punk roots. *6. Great strings (Egyptian String Ensemble), beats, vox. Mid/up. 7. Arabic/Russian/Georgian lyrics. Duet/strings. Relaxed, hypnotic *8. Dance groove w/powerful vocals, strings, a great sound. *9. Dark, at times angry blend of vox/string/prog. Mid/up very cool. 10. Growly vox, strong melody. Midtempo w/a touch of Africa. 11. Solid w/chorus/vox/guitar/perc. Midtempo. 12. Mostly midtempo Arabic rock w/great guitars/vox. *13.Midtempo, fairly traditional Rai sound w/great band. 14. Trippy electronica, then…Spanish?! Then serious dance beats. |
