The Contemporary Jazz Quintet – Actions 1966 - 67 Cacophonous free jazz group from Denmark, heavily influenced by the sound of expatriate New Yorkers in Europe at the time such as Albert Ayler and Sunny Murray. They add a musical saw alongside a more traditional sax/trumpet front line for an interesting effect. Despite its limited musical range, the saw adds a haunting dimension to the proceedings and foreshadows the role of electric guitar in free jazz, with its long sustained tones and strange distortion.
