Abstract snippets covering a variety of moods. It's like a game, like the pieces were intentionally confined and hurried ("OK, this'll be a slow one -- GO!") Which is a nice change considering this band tends to do hour-long pieces, as per their previous September Winds CDs. Another difference is that those CDs were recorded is echoey settings, while this one is a close-mic'ed studio session. Fun blips.
The band is four woodwinds and a trombone. Watch for Evan Parker on "tubax," a kind of tuba-sax.
- Slow start; fast and sudden end
- Fast
- Almost melodic! Tumbling horns
- Quiet screeching
- Low crawling growl
- Popping clatter
- Airy buzz
- Slow and growly
- Quiet popping
- Fast
- Slow and artsy
- Fast fluttering; circular breathing
- Drone with slow "world" solo
- Solos over long dissonant tones
- Chaotic big-band harmonies
- Trombone over fast sax flutters
- Quiet but fast suite
- Near-didgeridoo drone
- Peaceful mini-suite, loud second half
- A bit crazy
- Grumbly "tubax," spare
- Fast, tumbling
- Halting chaos
