A ncw great compilation of 60’s pop art icon, with his decadent (or smut) lyrics and bubblegum/bossa/jazzy pop music. Great loungy feeling with his classics, and also a few newer remixes. Two separate CDs, the first mostly classic songs from the 60’s and early 70’s (though there’s one remix at the end) and the second split between his earliest songs (jazzy songs from the late 50’s, early 60’s) and much later remixes (funny arrangement). Asterisks mark my favorites.
1. Euro-Beat classic with lots of fondness of American culture. Jazzy/swingy.
*2. 50’s cool Jazzy song (whiskey, Americaine, etc.), accompanied with vibrophone/sax/piano.
*3. Beebop opening, goes into a melancholy piano with sounds of a live performance. Dark and cinematic.
4. Euro cheezey jazz, could be exotic, depends on how you look at it.
5. 60’s crime/action-movie-type song.
6. A weird rendition of a Carribean song.
7. A tribute to Samba and Carnival. Shootings at the end.
*8. Mid 70’s cool song, half-whisper talking. Italian-Western-movies-style.
9. A song for Marilou, Country style.
10. A Raggae for Marilou. A remix. Fem backgrounds and a ragamuffin, Gainsbourg recites.
11. Dub remix of Gainsbourg reciting.
*12. Dub remix of Gainsbourg reciting
13. A funky song, a la Shaft. One of Gainsbourg’s last recorded songs (1987).
14. A synth-pop remix.
*15. A cool and dark R&B funky groove remix of Gainsbourg telling a story. Jangly beats and cool organ.
16. Cool and relaxing R&B/delicate-House remix of a theme song for a movie.
17. A sort-of-Disco remix of Gainsbourg telling a story (Grace Jones style).
