Repetitive and in a way minimalist instrumental blues rock from the drummer of the Swans and Rhys Chatham. It does merge a minimalist guitar sound, that has slow subtle changes and blues rock. Hell they even do a version of “Motherless Child”. This never rocks very loud, the tracks don’t change much and when they do the changes are subtle, there are surf-y sounds, and really I just don’t get it. I don’t see the point nor does any of it hit me in the rock gut. Occasionally the circular compositions and repetition do remind me of some Krautrock, like Neu but not enough to interest me. The production and in particular the drum sound is great.
1. Straight instrumental blues rock with some of the most cliché turnarounds that exist. Doesn’t change much throughout the track. I can’t listen to the whole thing.
2. Mostly drums to start with very subtle guitar and bass. Slight country blues sound. Doesn’t change much but the guitar does get louder as the track goes on.
3. Slightly quicker with a more garage rock sound. But it’s terribly restrained.
4. Nice, jangle-y version of Motherless Child. I was surprised to hear a little feedback but it came across as a bit stiff.
**5. A Rhys Chatham composition. The guitar sound is much more interesting, the drumming more dynamic, and hell they almost even rock. The repetition works better on this track.
