Opeth continue to be consistent (after 7 albums that’s not easy) with their mix of death metal and 70’s progressive rock. Somehow they’ve managed to take influences from Morbid Angel AND Camel and make it work. This is a lot more proggy but is still captivating enough to keep you listening.
((((1)))) Very standard Opeth, death metal then prog then back to death metal. Sounds pretty close to their ‘hit’ “Demon Of The Fall”
(((2))) Heavy-ass organ-laden epic prog metal with a little bit of death metal. Organ sounds almost out of place but it kind of works. Nice acoustic guitars, too.
(((((3))))) King Crimson-ish with mellotron, straight-ahead prog rock/metal then builds into death metal bits. Killer guitars all around.
(((((4))))) Awesome! Early 70’s Trippy, psych/ethno-folk rock.
(((((5))))) Zig-zagging riffs, melodic vox, catchy & captivating lots of odes to Camel & maybe Floyd in the middle.
(((((6))))) Pretty acoustic guitar, mellotron, trippy minimal vocal/guitar interplay. A nice change.
((7)) Heavy riffs, angular, a bit too mixed up. Too much tudding & too confusing.
(((((8))))) Beautiful jazzy chords, mellow with more Camel-worship but add a bit of early Genesis. Excellent
