Locally recorded acoustic versions/settings of local SF Bay Area heroes. All recorded live at Oaklands Mama Buzz Café, kind of a who’s who of local artists with acoustic, folk, rootsy leanings who are comfortable playing with minimal of amplification. Nice stuff, especially for fans of 4AD dreaminess, Kozelek, Bonnie Prince Billy, Devendra Banhardt, Geraldine Fibbers. Highlights: Rogue Wave, Paula Frazer, Laura Weinbach. 1) café folk, acoustic guitar and voc harmonies, recorded live 2) upbeat fast paced mountain bluegrassy, guitar+vocs 3) acoustic version with drums, melodic and poppy, forelorn 4) cool picked open tuning blues, fahey’esque 5) quite lovely undercurrent, dreamy with circular brushed snare, very nice noise embellishments 6) female acoustic sing-songwriter, for fans of Newsome, etc 7) slow sad guitar plod, banjo gives it a traditional folksy flare 8) simple pop acoustic strumming and male melodic vocs 9) pump organ thing, female voc delivery brings to mind Carla from Geraldine Fibbers 10) male simple soaring song 11) introduction to song, spoken about chicken licken, simple basic mountain folk, nice vocal quality 12) one of Paula’s nicest post Tarnation songs, listen to someone incapable of hitting a sour note, who is the reincarnation of Patsey Cline, Kitty Wells, name it 13) simple acoustic pop 14) western twangy hillbilly guitar picking and vocal stylings 15) solo acoustic guitar and pretty multi octave female vocs that have a pleasant near-samba da orfeo quality 16) noise electronics in background, slow to build 17) pump organ/accordian thing, drinking song (yay!) | ||
