Portland woman pulls off a one-“man” band CD, playing all the instruments. This is heavy stuff, rockin, strange, big beats, loud guitars, desperate vocs. A mix of styles. She is quite adept at all instruments but it seems like the drums and the vocs pack the most punch. The guitar work, doubled up (dubbed of course, as is everything) sounds a little “straight-in” and it feels like she kept all the takes instead of editing them (the dangers of playing all instruments in the studio). But this isn’t bad, nay, it really adds a level of dementia. The whole thing is kinda manic and weird really.
1) headnodding cock rock, except it’s a woman screaming about her crotch, sloppy playing, as though she isn’t monitoring herself very well, adds a nice effect
2) FCCs up the ying yang NO No no!
3) cool tom work, great drumming
4) bluesy rockin
5) feels like Captain Beefheart re-incarnated as a female indie rocker, cool!
6) waltzy triplet minor darker mellower feel, some piano
7) big drum beat here, 70’s hard rock licks feel, overall big triplet beat, vocals seem a bit stretched
8) another interesting one with a complex tom based beat and cool Beefheart feeling guitars
9) big triplet beat with dissonant guitar melodies/riffage, dark feel, understated vocs
10) reflective indie rock feel, of all things
