A peculiar grab-bag of Iowan & Japanese bands on the label above. FCC clean. The bands:
1,7 - "YMCK" Swingle Singers/Chordettes turn into 2 Japanese girls that sound 13, add 8-bit nintendo, subtract drums, bass, and Bach.
2,6 - "Old Scratch Revival Singers" From Iowa. Bluegrass? ragtime? musical? tongue-in-cheeck? Americana? slightly creepy.
3,8. - "Eel" Electric/synthy Japanese girl-pop.
4,9. - "Mummy the Peepshow" Simple Japanese girl rock. Retro-70s "punk". Poorly enunciated english lyrics.
5,10. "Hugs" Iowan emo-core, and they do a surprisingly good/faithful job.
***1. bubbly! brief Tatum pastorale on nintendo. good interplay between overdubbed vox and nintendo. (2:38)
***2. medium bluegrass bounce. ragtime banjo. fiddle and clarinet counter melody, tuba is the bass. vox nicely buried. Get your Jazz Hands ready. (1:57)
3. fast, synth rockish. In japanese. (2:14)
4. med/fast "School Girl Pop" = crappy "Blitzkrieg Bop"? vapid "yeah yh yh yh"s (2:08)
**5. slow churning intro. good rhythms. classic emocore vox, (1:55)
*6. Slow. 6/8. Last 50 sec. almost silence! Almost a musical. About a haunted house. melancholy + "spooky". Spare. Tambourine, banjo, drums, clarinet. Male & Fem vox. (5:16)
7. bubbly. variant on rhythm changes. 1 is far superior. (2:10)
8. Fast. Walking bass, comp. vox, sirens, changes to chirpy beat, guitars. comp. noises(3:11)
*9. Med. with sloppy, slow 3/4 hook. depressing lyrics, but it is not clear they translated their japanese lyrics correctly?!? (3:24)
**10. Nice rhythms from drummer. Lyrics are intelligible. (1:30)
