coll:Records Of The Damned Records Of The Damned A peculiar grab-bag of Iowan & Japanese bands on the label above. FCC clean. The bands: 1,7 - "YMCK" Swingle Singers/Chordettes turn into 2 Japanese girls that sound 13, add 8-bit nintendo, subtract drums, bass, and Bach. 2,6 - "Old Scratch Revival Singers" From Iowa. Bluegrass? ragtime? musical? tongue-in-cheeck? Americana? slightly creepy. 3,8. - "Eel" Electric/synthy Japanese girl-pop. 4,9. - "Mummy the Peepshow" Simple Japanese girl rock. Retro-70s "punk". Poorly enunciated english lyrics. 5,10. "Hugs" Iowan emo-core, and they do a surprisingly good/faithful job. ***1. bubbly! brief Tatum pastorale on nintendo. good interplay between overdubbed vox and nintendo. (2:38) ***2. medium bluegrass bounce. ragtime banjo. fiddle and clarinet counter melody, tuba is the bass. vox nicely buried. Get your Jazz Hands ready. (1:57) 3. fast, synth rockish. In japanese.
