Glitch-pop. lappop. Electro-pop with organic elements. Marc Bianchi, the only guy in Her Space Holiday, has been doing this for a while (this is the 6th HRH that we have). This is laptop pop with a good mix of electronic beats and more organic sounds. Maybe somewhere between Four Tet and the Postal Service? He’s not much of a vocalist and his vocals are languid, but most tracks this doesn’t detract from the song. This album is not as depressing as the last (Young Machines). There are a couple duds here but overall some real winners.

My picks: 3, 5, 7, 9, 10
1. starts with answering machine message. strings, timpanis, beat gets stronger. dancy beat w/ backward guitars.
2. very high pitched part of the beat in right ear. unmelodic vocals. counting lyrics “it goes 1 2 3” repeated. denser near the end.
3. strings, flutes. clapping and conga drums alone with more electronic elements. a few Nintendo like instruments come in midway through. nice, loopy, complex ending
4. starts with pretty standard block-chord keyboards and then a pretty standard beat enters. gets more interesting when more instruments enter. fake ending about 2:45 left.
5. classical sounding strings at the beginning. goes into a nice uptempo song with strings and an electronic beat. more instruments/ electronic add later. orchestral interlude.
6. starts with answering machine messages. song rises up atmospherically. Wait that’s it. It fades out, piano, more answering machine messages.
7. crackly record sound. bits and pieces of an old crank organ or something. heavy beat and bass. strings and a high-pitched f voice comes in, trading with the main m vox. nice nylon string guitar solo/ loop near the end.
8. starts with tuning a staticy radio. Congas and electronic beat. a bit monotonous. political
9. starts with piano. bass and phil spector drums come in. steals a bit of the Beatles’ “here comes the sun.” ends with medieval sounding loop
10. nylon string guitar and vox. ends with outdoor sounds (chirping birds and dogs barking)
