Old school indie-rock. Rich warm distorted guitars and a weather-worn male voice. This guy spent 15+ years writing the most bitter songs imaginable, yet now he seems to have reached the light at the end of his tunnel, causing at least one fellow KZSUer to dismiss this as light saccharine pop. I suppose one could hear that in the lyrics of a few songs, but for me, it makes me want to slouch and nurse a cheap brew on my old thrift-store couch. If you are already familiar with MDID, well, despite the upturn in outlook, this is better than what I've heard from him in years. (And he's not all that happy...)
++1.3/4 time makes it lilting, voice full of regrets. if you want to know what indie rock sounded like sound/productionwise in the mid/late 80's here it is. This track is growing on me.
2.Popish, light love song
3.Love song, a little slower then the previous
++4.Mid-slow. Dissing TV news? The old bitter boy is still there.
5.Catchy, mid-tempo. Lyrically one of the more despairing tracks, lost distracted & aging narrator.
+6.driving, distorted-guitar sound. Minor key dissonance.
+7. Relaxed, clean sound. An attitude I can get behind: "just ignore, why should we get involved, why should we ever leave our home?" not a call to action, really just wants to stay inside, slacker!
8.3/4 time, languid but a little dull. half love song, half accepting time's passage.
9.mid-slow oblique anti-war, anti-hypocrisy song
+10.fast, simple, melodic: emo!?
+11. dissonant guitar. Very anti-our-leaders, anti-posturing. Some lyrics seem straight out of Crass.
