PIERANUNZI / JOHNSON / BARON – “Play Morricone” CamJazz, 2004 No, this is not spaghetti western music! These are straight-jazz trio renditions of tunes – mostly ballads – written by the great Italian film composer Ennio Morricone from 1964 to 1996. E.M.’s oeuvre is vast, going way beyond those guitar-laden western scores, and this trio plays his music with great sensitivity. Pieranunzi’s bright, confident piano playing makes the music all his own. Nice! All good.
