Joelle Leandre - At the Le Mans Jazz Festival

Sprawling document of Joelle Leandre playing with a collection of improvisers. Features duos, trios and quartets, with a chamber music aesthetic but often stretching out into a free cacophany. Excellent stuff, start anywhere.

Disc 1:
*1. Chamber trio, darting up & down with operatic singing and Cecil Taylor-like piano
2. Continuation of #1
**3. Great bass duet. Parker plays percussively, while Leandre bows
*4. Duet - melodic chamber sound contrasted with free attack
5. Happy flute with Leandre on bass

Disc 2:
**1. Violin & bass darting, swirling
2. Duet - slower, more abstract
3. Active start with lots of plinking, later slows down w/ singing
4. Mild trumpet & bells
*5. Ringing bells with bright trumpet and bowed bass
*6. Tense, swirling group improv
7. Quiet group start, then builds
*8. Fast and squeaky
*9. Frantic bass
