Album Review
Rob
Reviewed 2006-08-09
Low/Mid energy guitar-driven post-rock instrumentals. Rambling, atmospheric slacker-rock jams that are not nearly as pretentious as the album title may lead you to believe. Few surprises, though good use of standard instrumentation to create interesting effects and textures without too much processing.

Picks: 2, 7, 9

1. Empty spaces ambiance
*2. Soft, ethereal ambiance builds to a wall of guitar noise and a spot of post-rock jam. Astronaut clips including the first few verses of Genesis. Cliche, but cool effect.
3. Intro establishes nice groove with swelling picked guitar, then pretty run-of-the-mill instrumental. 10-sec outro
4. Mid/Low energy, centered around a guitar arpeggio refrain.
*5. Super low-energy. Etched guitar strokes echoing against a rumbling soundscape.
6. Low energy, guitar hook looped softy under muted percussion and melodic picking. Nice tempo change at 4:00, good build, but repeated guitar line gets stagnant by the end.
*7. Slow, sweetly interweaving guitar lines build to a mid-energy refrain. Rusty, scratchy sounds last 1:00 - cross-fade recommended.
8. Great, bubbly intro leads into noisy, high-energy instrumental. Good transition from synth pop or electronic sounds to rock. 1:00 tonal sounds outro.
*9. Distorted, processed drum beat with a bit of a lilt props up a flowing mess of sounds. No direction, but cool texture. 23-sec outro.
