Your Imaginary Friend
Reviewed 2006-09-05
Wow, the holy grail of narcotic pretty soundscapes, droning but still sparkling, making the masters (Eno, Fripp-ertronics, Tomita, Tangerine Dream) warm fuzzy and proud. Beautiful loops, glistening pretty, hypnotizing, mesmerizing. Same effect as My Bloody Valentine, but without the beats. Fantastic.

1) loopy ambient, high melodies shimmering give way to more layers and loops, like a million Pink Floyd song intros together designed to give you an acid flashback, build on themselves for ~4 minutes then the thing gets blurpy, disjunct, cool
2) very serene builds slowly into trippy heavily layered drony narcotic passage, then back to ambience
3) very pretty, smacks of traditional “electronic” music, e.g. Tangerine Dream, Tomita (shortest, radio friendly, track)
4) pretty drone gives way to noisier drone that lasts a good 8 minutes or so, then back to the pretty melodic stuff that is reminiscent of Frippertronics or something Eno
5) glistening delayed/echoe’ed guitars, blurps of loops appear later, tape echo, warm and organic
6) simple guitar playing gets heavily layered, treated, drony, incredibly noisey, with bursts, wow!!
