Your Imaginary Friend Reviewed 2006-07-31 | ||
Driving pounding fun noisey-as-hell rock from Columbus Ohio. Low fi recording only adds to the intensity of this beer bash. Fuzzy vocals, fuzzy everything. But great beats, what rock is all about, or can be. Like Dinosaur Jr or poppier Husker Du. recorded on a broken Revox. One-sheet likens this to the “the glory days of SST (Records)”. If by that they are talking about early Sonic Youth and Dinosaur, I can totally see that. Most of it sounds like epic indie rock from the early-mid 90’s (e.g. Pavement) put through a wall of fuzz boxes. 1) swings and bounces, then rocks out, heavy and crunchy fun 2) tom tom beat, noisey as hell with some scratchy violin 3) poppier feel for sure, Dinosaur’ish 4) like an upbeat indie rock song put through a fuzz box 5) balls out rocking 6) mid-90’s epic indie rock feel, fuzzed out 7) Pavement through a fuzz box 8) a bit more dissonant, dirty, feedback symposium at end 9) extremely low fi guitar playing and tapes, this is more of an experimental noise piece than anything 10) upbeat pop rocking 11) the sound of tape rewinding then a 1,2,3,4 click off |
