Experimental classical. A whole choir of Jaap Blonks? In French, though largely nonsense syllables – about a man dying in agony. Intense, demonic at times. Most of the tracks have 2 or 3 sections, with spoken or monotone solo voice, choral shriekings and vocal gymnastics, and percussion - sometimes all together and sometimes just one of those three. The choir is sometimes medieval or aboriginal-sounding. Great piece. Odd. FCC clean. Favs 2, 3, 8. 1. Starts with atmospheric percussion - to chanting - to French recitative. *2. Wailing, sobbing, Jaap Blonk or David Moss-esque for the first 3 min. Then male speaking monosyllables and hissing. Choir joins, sounds like sesame street muppets. Percussion ends. *3. Solo f. vox over quiet screeching and percussion. Changes to m. speaking over choir. 4. Choir mumblings and moanings. Female recitative joins. Demonic or crazy at times. Dissonant choir. Percussion end. 5. Active percussion, spitting, growling. Oh my, fun. Male recit comes in over chanting/grunting. 6. Mostly chanting, throat singing, then bizarre choir and medieval choral. 7. Atmospheric start (footsteps and soft music). Choir joins 2nd half. *8. Wow - weird choir. Chicken sounds, vocal gymnastics, very high notes, noises I make when I'm sure no one is around to hear me! 9. Male recitative over choir. 10. Hissing, female monotone recit., gasping intermittently. Choir @ 1 min. left. 11. Short sparse percussion track. Bells and a small gong. 12. Male speaking/muttering, choir takes over. 13. Fem. recitative. Pause 3 minutes in, followed by her last dying sounds. Choir ends with anxious wailing and ululating. Brief pause at 40 s. left. |
