Balloon with string instruments. Noise/classical/drone/jazz? Or more accurately, bees, race cars, and madness. Tons of different balloon sounds, some altered by electronics, with string quartet, violin, and bass koto. The liner notes give cool details on technique etc. Some tracks are eerie, some annoying, and some are beautifully weird drones. Lots of microtonal stuff. Good good good. Favs 1, 7, 8.
*1. Fantastically annoying. Squeaky balloon and tense violin, um, scratching together.
2. Slow Slow dive bomb sounds - sliding strings and a balloon deflating slowly. You can hear Dunaway blowing up the balloons at times.
3. High pitched dissonant frenetic strings with a balloon that's being rubbed by wet hands.
4. Scary freeway/train/race track sounds, to foot stomping, to low vibrating sounds with screechy microtonal violins.
5. Crackling, pounding, spluttering - dark - with electronics.
6. OK, there are balloons under the fricking koto strings - check out the picture in the booklet. Rhythmic balloon snapping & drumming, squeaking, with occasional straight koto sounds. Some 10 second near-silent parts.
*7. Starts very quiet. More electronic-sounding - almost sounds like sax skronking. The fullest-sounding track. A forest indeed - freaky.
*8. Playful track - vocal-sounding. Would go well next to Maja Ratkje or Fe-mail. pure craziness.
