Benoit Pioulard: Precis Label: Kranky Dreamy, atmospheric, indie pop. Voice low in the mix (at times reminiscent of the jesus and mary chain). MELLOW (but occasionally beautiful). Songs generally rely on guitar strumming for structure. White noise in background provides rich sounding textures. Lots of samples and electronic goodies low in the mix. Melodic, but sedate vocals. No FCCs. Best tracks: #15, 2, 8, 9, 5, 14 1) 3:08 – shimmering white-noise…gives way at end. 2) 3:08 – starts suddenly. Gentle strumming and soft singing. Heavy reverb. Some glockenspiel, xylophone, 3) 2:42 - Starts with guitar wah distortion. Vocals low in mix. Soft percussion, harmonica. 4) 2:30 – poppy singing. Mellow rhythm drives piece. 5) 1:16 –shimmering white noise. Pretty distorted piano interlude 6) 2:51 - starts w/brief white noise. Trad. picking. Fast tempo. Mellow. 7) 1:43 – dulcimer-ish. Electronic clip percussion. White noise background. pretty 8) 3:04 –xylophone. Ballad. White noise percussion. 9) 1:31 –white noise with xylophone. Noisy interlude. 10) 2:22 –arpeggio guitar chords. Upbeat singing. Sweet, mysterious chord progression. 11) 2:42 –urgent feeling guitar/cymbal sweeps. 12) 0:40 –white noise interlude. 13) 2:59 –folksy/poppy acoustic strumming.
