Nice collection of artists on the Riverboat Records label (an offshoot of World Music Network). Song styles are varied, but the great performances are universal. Every track is worth at least one star – at least! But these are my favorites.
1. Midtempo blend of horns/perc/vocals w/a nice tripping beat.
2. Starts slow, vox & guitar, gets into a sweet midtempo sound.
3. High-pitched opening, bouncing, mid duet w/great vocalese.
4. Bright, delicious mid/up African kora/vocal/perc track.
6. Upbeat Senegalese strings/vocals. A tight, very cool sound.
8. Driving, gypsy folk meets urban dance w/odd vocals/sounds.
9. Sweet, relaxed midtempo Hawaiian/Okinawan blend.
11. Odd, growly, Creole orchestra mid/uptempo.
12. Fun, happy soukous-y w/bouncy strings, fem vox.
15. Funky guitar, heavy mid beat, twangy guitar, hip Afro-blues.
16. Starts slow, picks up. A mid/up Afro groove w/great vox.
17. Cool, contemporary gypsy folk/jazz. Mid w/great vocals.
