Speech & interview. Intelligent and insightful account of 2nd Iraq war by Robert Fisk, a British war journalist who speaks Arabic and lives in Beirut. Tracks 1-7 form a speech which describes the brutality and destruction brought to the region by the US invasion, gives an account of the following social unrest, and refutes many of the American government's claims about conditions in Iraq. In tracks 8-12, he's being interviewed. He explains the political history of Lebanon, the current mood of its people, and the power of Hizbollah.
Mr. Fisk is very eloquent. Along the way, in the both his speech and his interview there are illuminating sections on the dangers of journalism (most journalists in Iraq, too scared to leave their rooms, are telephoning the US army and Iraqi government for information) and how this latest Iraq disaster can be couched in a Middle-Eastern history filled with Western colonialism. Take a listen. Though critical of the current administration, at its heart, it is non-partisan; it is journalism. FCC clean.
