ANA LAAN: Orégano
Random, 2004

Pleasantly moody pop from a Spanish/Swedish/American singer, who moves through folksy and electronic spaces with equal ease. She has a pretty voice and the production, although extensive, blends very well. Lots of multi-tracking in the vocals, all in Spanish except 7 & 13.

Fo’s Picks: 1, 2, 5, 6, 8, 10

1. midtempo: deadpan vox over electronic bubbling & screechy interjections
2. jazzy flow, light and breezy with acoustic guitar & piano break
3. noir-ish synth strings, burbling bass, lightly filtered vox break free near end
4. dragging beat loop, even-toned vocal
5. blips, beeps and a complex rhythm + acoustic guitar, gentle vocal
6. bright melody, lively folky vocal with acoustic guitar & swooping retro break
7. a cappella multi-tracked English vocal, a folk song fragment
8. pretty melody, processed vox & minimal drumbeat, circular guitar, bells
9. dubby looped backing, half-spoken filtered vox, tweaky synth under ending
10. modern lounge: piano/bubbly electronic swirl, pretty vocal, Brazilian touch
11. multi-tracked vocal over a sneaky, late-night pulse
12. spinning guitar pattern, sing-song vocal, cello break
13. a cappella multi-tracked Swedish vocal
