Lovely Nordic melodies and harmonies and Swedish folk music from a guitar, bass, drums trio plus a nyckelharpist. Songs have variously traditional lyrics, traditional music, both, or neither but of even quality. Many songs deal with absent love, longing, departures, and the like. All lyrics in Swedish, BTW. Highly recommended. Bonus points: each member of the sextet has his/her own website listed in the notes! *** 1. Sprightly, lovely "welcome, spring" song *** 2. 12-verse tune based on the farming recommendations found in the Farmer's Almanac for each month. *** 3. Picks up the pace with a blessing for the health of the sheep ** 4. Upbeat ode to sharing one's joy as far better than being monied ** 5. Based on two medieval ballads of a love gone seriously bad and a subsequent broken heart, this is a little darker than the preceding ** 6. Grief for an absent lover; quiet, sad, and slow of course *** 7. A happy song to lift the mood; upbeat with just a hint of bittersweet ** 8. Midtempo ballad about relief of being home ** 9. Another everlasting love ballad *** 10. Typical (Swedish) folk instrumental; longing, dark, hopeful, lovely *** 11. Couldn't have a Swedish folk album without a song about sailing; acapella harmonising *** 12. Short, fast polska with scatting lyrics *** 13. Ultra-poppy hooks, harmonies, and interesting rhythms on a Swedish folk tune *** 14. Only marginally less poppy than tk. 13; upbeat *** 15. Pretty flute bit among the lovely verses |
