Your Imaginary Friend Reviewed 2007-01-24 | ||
Experimental avante pieces that are more on the ambient side of the fence created using one of the original electronic music devices. The rhythmicon was invented in the days of Leon Theremin and Charles Ives. Here it used by modern composers. Tracks vary between artists but are mostly chill and heady. A detailed explanation of the pieces with bio’s of the artists is enclosed, serves to legitimize this as “proper” music (to be filed in the classical section rather than the noise/experimental of Amoeba). Cool stuff, droney and trippy in places, would fit in a set by Romain as easily as one by Sans Dosage. 1) quiet build up, pulsing ambience, tones 2) more dissonant, sawtooth and square waves, slightly noisey 3) piano tones to start fall dissonant quickly then the piece is mostly sine wave ambience, piano bookends this 4) this one has an old narration/explanation of the piece by I assume the inventor, throbbing lower tones juxtaposed with a high pitch, about 4 minutes in a cacophony of bells appear, very chill toward end 5) sparkley 6) shimmering ambience, white noise “wind” sounds, like wind chimes on acid in a martian sandstorm 7) high freq shimmerings, bell-like 8) sound bite samples, scientific talk about cremation, combustion, sample art-ish, different from others 9) sound collage-like, swirling and slightly noisey |
