PARTYLINE – “ZOMBIE TERRORIST”
(retard disco)
tight female political punk in the danceable riot-grrl vein. fast, noisy, unapologetically political lyrics delivered in highly positive, catchy, sweet and wailing girl vocals with fast guitars. all lyrics overtly feminist or anti-bush/patriarchy/b.s. political. partyline is allison wolfe of bratmobile fame, angela melkisethian and crystal bradley, and they call out their names and partyline in the songs, so you know it! it’s so not gratuitous, though, just very fun. this cd is a blitz of some of the most fun, danceable, spirited, sassy songs i’ve heard in a long time! today’s times still call for some riot grrl reaction – partyline knows this and will have you rocking and dancing and calling for action with your best girls and boys. play with the rondelles, early s/k, bratmobile (duh), bikini kill, early le tigre, the gossip, the raincoats, (girl) punk sets: it’s all good here. love this cd, woo!! - joanna s.
recommended tracks starred, = 2, 3, 4, 8, 9, 10, 11
FCC = 1 (“ass”) but the worst words are ‘beeped’ out of all tracks - ours is a radio edit disc. unfortunately the beeps can be pretty jarring (they are noted below).
1. (1:30) FCC smooth girl harmonies, fast and punky. the beeps/radio edits are too jarring though.
*2. (1:44) fast sassy harmonies over jumpy guitars, has a funny newscaster report in the background after two telephone rings, punky cool guitars
*3. (1:20) fun, ‘woo!!’s all around, vox. more wailed than sung, riot grrl nostalgia whoa.
*4. (2:07) slower start leads to a super fast catchy harmonic track with cowbell. beep-ed out curses (2x) are kind of a bummer though, ends with a similar spoken march beat.
5. (1:22) super fast, name checking partyline, unapologetic lyrics – “give me head or give me justice!” ends abruptly.
6. (1:46) fast, taunting call-outs and sassy vocal melodies, reminds me of the rondelles but beeps (3x) at end are lame. about doing “your ***ing dishes!!”
7. (1:49) snotty angsty lyrics, ‘hey’s punctuating the chorus, whoa rock guitars!
*8. (2:08) a sweeter delta 5 singing style, then calling out their names and PAR-TY-LINE awesome!! about love troubles, cute!
*9. (1:50) so boppable, with hand-claps, girl group harmonizing and fast guitars.
*10. (1:08) sassy bratmobile style in effect, riot grrl defiant taunting vox, love the name checking, abrupt ending (has 2 ‘beep’s)
*11. (1:15) woo!! “what are we gonna do?” fast, rondelles-attitude and cheerleader call-outs, cute and very catchy/danceable.
