Trombone-led modern jazz, really good, with composing that features some strong beats, post-bop complexity while leaving room for a bit of out-there soloing. Shouldn't scare anyone looking for "inside" jazz (esp. tracks 3 and 4). Dessen appears mostly in bass-drum trios, with occasional piano (2,3,7) or violin (5). Some high-profile guests including Vijay Iyer (piano), Mark Dresser (bass), and Susie Ibarra (percussion).

Other personnel: Jorge Roeder (bass), Bob Weiner (percusion), Terry Jenoure (violin)

- Upbeat irregular rhythm; a spare trio setting
- Crisp rhythm with really nice piano/bass. Dig the flowing piano riff near the end.
- Ballad, a soft straight-jazz piece. Nice.
- Mid/fast with a strong beat and bassline
- Strong mid/fast piece that jams really well. With violin.
- Groany bass/trombone duet, with Mark Dresser
- Disconnected feel w/slow spacious piano. Second half gets faster, including some weighty composition.
- Playful improv duet with Susie Ibarra.
