Weakerthans, The – Reunion Tour Reviewed by Witz
Indie-pop-rock. The Weakerthans, from Manitoba, have been putting out music just above obscurity for the last ten years. Their intricate brand of indie-rock stems from the distinctive vocals of lead singer John Sampson. One part Michael Stipe, one part Ben Gibbard, Sampson lead’s the listener through each song, while the rest of the band conjures up catchy, poppy, or melancholy riffs in support. FCC CLEAN
**1) The single—catchy chorus, energetic uptempo rhythms. (3:18)
2) Somewhat slower, melancholy, dreamy track. (3:08)
3) Energetic, driving rhythms, narrative vocals. (2:38)
**4) Poppy, rocky, catchy, good. Nice changes. (3:35)
5) Slower, but full sound. Good lyrics and instrumentals. (4:09)
6) Spoken word over instrumentals. (2:43)
*7) Medium paced—sounds like a poppier version of Badly Drawn Boy – Silent Sigh. (4:00)
8) Soft pounding, same steady lyrics and rhythms. Kind of Death Cab-y (4:36)
*9) Minimalistic acoustic guitar, vocally driven. (2:23)
10) The title track is very Death Cab For Cutie. Mellow, but complex instrumentals and lyrics. (2:08)
11) Starts slow and builds, then settles down again. (4:35)
