Album Review
Your Imaginary Friend
Reviewed 2008-03-04
Synth rock. The strange echo’ed vocals of Suicide, the darkness of a Throbbing Gristle, tempered with the hopeful synth pop of Depeche Mode or Simple Minds. Huh? This stuff would fit nicely with Joy Division as any of your electroclash favorites. Play with Brian Eno/Warm Jets era. Contemporary Croatian artist who has a distinct 80’s tone without pandering or sucking. Vocals in English, mesh perfectly with the strange minimalism of this. Like a fine distillate of the best aspects of 80’s synth pop, Human League, OMD.

1) minimal synth with crooning vocs picks up to a mellow upbeat ballad a la Depech Mode, Simple Minds
2) chill darker more experimental synth feel with cool echo on sparse vocs
3) sounds very much like here come the warm jets era Eno, simple analog synth sequenced with vocals
4) very spooky dark ambience, midway a plod simple beat appears, only missing is the human sacrifice
5) dark synth sound bed with melodies, then a mechanical synth beat appears with melodic vocals
6) chill dark electro, instrumental
7) more noisey, all over but cool
