Magneta Lane, Fiery Furnaces immediately come to mind. Strong female vocals in front of well played, composed songs that are heavy on guitar but not overwhelming. Creative and really good stuff from this local (San Francisco) outfit. Dead Milkmen references too. 1) halftime start then goes mid paced epic head nodding rockin 2) heavy plod with references to Carl Sagan (geeky) 3) upbeat with 9th/7th chords, smarmy and cool at the same time 4) more pensive, somber, dark 5) something smacks of Beatles pop in this to me, or like Three Dog Night or sumpin 6) upbeat, goes ¾ then bouncy and back and forth, slightly comedic 7) heavy triplet 8) starts slow and almost cute but builds a bit 9) drivin almost rocking, totally epic 10) very quiet start, very ska flavor to this but it gets heavy and crazy pretty quick 11) intense if halting, cinematic stuff | ||
