Your Imaginary Friend Reviewed 2008-05-06 | ||
Local songsmithing that calls itself “cello-rock” but I would say its heavier on the rock or even a folk feel. Pop hooks abound especially as the cd progresses. Male/female vocals, cool use of cellos (are there even any guitars/bass?), drums etc. Definitely for fans of quality indie rock, a la Café Du Nord lineups. Moments of clarity bring to mind the genius of T-Rex. Listen carefully or totally miss out. 1) swingy folkie feel, picks up at end 2) upbeat, almost rockin 3) ploddy, rock feel 4) cello appears in front, simple sing-songwriter feel with tambourine 5) slightly offkey epic female a cappela to start, then the cellos come heavy 6) upbeat epic pop with female backs 7) head nodding heavy pop where the cello smacks of T-Rex, great! 8) mid paced but still epic and passionate, pop, cellos only with percussion and female backs 9) songsmith, minimal but upbeat 10) upbeat driving cello as bass |
