KRS-One – Adventures in Emceein

Hip hop with plenty of variety and lots of philosophy. Some of the flows are a bit self-congratulatory for my tastes, but there plenty of room for some breath-takingly good beat and rhymes here.
Several single FCCs – play after 10 or with caution tracks 3, 8, 11, 14, 18 and 19.
I love track 21, and tracks 5, 13, 16 and 17 are great too.
1. street sounds and intro speaking, fades into
2. beat and countdown of topics and teaching.
3. FCC “bullshit” echoed. **Police siren and very echo-laden rap, funky downtempo beat and very political diatribe. Good stuff. Police siren and bomb outro,
4. ***downbeat and downtempo beat, bouncy rhythmic rap, very real. Pointed guest bit by MC Lyte. Riddim fades and MC Lyte continues at end.
5. **more sirens and fairly slick riddim, some singing and statement of purpose. Ends very abruptly.
6. **dramatic and insistent riddim, fast and intense rap about the heyday of hip hop, and how it isn’t necessarily over.
7. **different intense music with bits of female vocals sampled in background. Rather self-congratulatory rap, with a hint of dancehall.
8. FCC “shit” *gunshots and cinematic sounding riddim, diatribe against wack rappers.
9. *intro apparently recorded from a telephone, syncopated riddim, about conscious hip hop.
10. Caveat: “bitches and niggas” **hard as hell riddim.
11. FCC: “shit” x 3 *very downtempo and downbeat riddim with diatribe. Good chorus.
12. **15 seconds of just talk, then very downtempo and menacing riddim, story all rhymed around the repeated “all right”.
13. ***another apparently telephoned intro, then great bouncy dancehall riddim, dancehall rap about drug abuse. Points for “direct your chi”….! Just talk at end.
14. FCC: “fucking” ***really fun riddim, diatribe against people using violence to gain fame.
15. **midtempo fractured riddim, sample of sappy love song – pretty amusing interaction of vocals.
16. ****fun disjointed riddim, great lyrics about being old and good. Yay!
17. ***orchestral electronics and bongo-style boops, upful lyrics.
18. FCC: “give a fuck” ***another great electronic riddim, female chorus, and rap about never ceasing to strive.
19. FCC: “shit” ****mad big slow drumbeats, big rhymes about positivism.
20. *slow piano-based riddim with very sparse beat, all about love and emceein.
21. *****heavy metal guitar and hyperspeed rap, shoutouts to heroes. Worth the price of admission by itself!
