PACIFIKA: Asunción Six Degrees, 2008 WORLD/POP – Globetrotting trio out of Vancouver, with (mostly) Spanish vocals. Has an electro-acoustic sound with lots of production layers, for a cutesy/hip chill-out lounge or coffeehouse vibe. Harmless. Fo’s Picks: 2, 5, 7, 9, 10 1. 4:35 – slow, ethereal fade-in; light vocal & bell-like guitar, picks up gradually 2. 3:46 – upbeat walking groove, layered vocal, hints of flamenco, ends stiffly 3. 4:30 – flirtatious feel: vox wind around simple guitar riff and bubbly breaks 4. 3:53 – spare groove, vox in English & Spanish, delicate guitar & snap beat 5. 3:16 – chill flamenco vibe with aching vocal, dramatic tension, then rolling 6. 4:57 – grungy guitar and wounded vocal, turns striding in the middle 7. 3:15 – acoustic guitar bounce, interesting melody, a folksy feel 8. 4:35 – gently rocking rhythm, delicate English/Spanish vocal 9. 2:45 – melancholy acoustic guitar, hushed vocal, sad strings 10. 3:24 – riffing tune: cool posturing bursts into happy breaks 11. 3:50 – simple tune with touches of strings, bells, wind noises [ Fo ] 20-Oct-08 | ||
