Under John Zorn’s (executive producer) wing, this guy utilizes organic sources (clarinets, name it) with a stated position of minimal electronic treatments to create sonic challenges, what you might expect from Zorn himself, material bursting and skronking you in the face. But when he drones and pays attention to tonality and harmony it’s a beautiful thing, if rare. With a mind to mic placement, sampling techniques, this music reflects an attention to detail that would probably qualify it as high art jazz or at least earn its place in a teaching position at Columbia (stay tuned for this guy…). For fans of Zorn, anything that pushes the boundaries.

1) mesmerizing drone with bowed cymbals, hypnotic and truly lovely, blends right into next track so ends cold
2) random craziness, lots of kick ass tones and sounds, evolves into a beat, very avante
3) sparser, reverby, a drone with bursts of tones
4) Zorn’esque “unlistenable” skronks and bursts
5) the insanity of skronkiness intensifies
6-7) are the same as previous, brief
8) long piece: a lovely drone that ebbs and flows, then gets super loud, quiet, back and forth
9) noisey, doesn’t skronk out too much, good weird shit
10) more good noise, quality stuff that isn’t just distortion, tones that layer and are vocal
