CY TOUFF & SANDY MOSSE: Tickle Toe
Delmark, 1981

COOL BOP – Previously unreleased 1981 session between Touff, who played the rare bass trumpet, and Mosse, a journeyman tenor sax guy who spent his career between Chicago and Europe. This is straight-ahead, feel-good jazz from two solid guys who never got much time in the spotlight; pales next to Touff’s mid ‘50s work but still good stuff.

Fo’s Picks: 2, 4, 5, 6, 7

1. 08:03 – bop, upbeat and swinging with a butter-smooth sax solo
2. 10:12 – sloooow blues, a nice easy glide with fine solos from everybody
3. 11:31 – cool-toned standard with an easygoing, breezy swing
4. 06:32 – upbeat boppin’, straight-up & in the pocket
5. 13:03 – ‘50s cool: sweet horn harmony & relaxed solos over gentle groove
6. 10:52 – playful take on a sappy tune, very warm and solidly swinging
7. 07:36 – smoky after-hours feel, a romantic, slow-dancing embrace
