First album of indie folk out of this English singer-songwriter. Lots of fingerpicked guitar, straight-forward British-accented vocals, strings, light drums. Bass, trumpet, pump organ and other instruments are also scattered in. The instrumentation and sonic offering are a bit off-putting at first, but they grew to be intriguing as I listened more. This album isn't ground breaking but there are a number of good songs on here and overall it's a respectable debut.

My picks: 1, 8, 2, 5, 6, 9 FCC: clean
mid-tempo. uptempo fingerpicked guitar and vocals. violin, drums, etc in the background. fun tune--one of my favorites of the album.
med-slow. a dark melody hooks you in along with a nice guitar part. cello later.
med-fast. bass-led rollick with violin. group harmonies during chorus.
slow. ballady.
mid tempo. nice upbeat banjo party + strings.
med-slow. fingerpicked guitar, double vocals and cello. nice melancholy melody.
mid tempo. a little bluesy. lost of mandolin, violin and trumpet in this one.
mid-tempo. a gorgeous melancholy folk song that manages to be a huge song in 4 minutes. I can't stop listening to this.
med-fast. upbeat and uptempo. nice rousing chorus and decent verses.
med-fast. rousing beat with plenty of strings, trumpets. pulls back for the verses, fuller for other parts of the song.
med-slow. pump organ and some slight jazz inflections to the chords. trumpet and group vocals later.
med-fast. quick fingerpicking, some harmonica and brief yelping.
med-slow. starts quiet and builds a little, but remains subdued until the 2nd half when it picks up quite a bit.
med-slow. short, but nice instrumental organ piece.
