As the title suggests, recorded in Madras (Chennai), Tamil Nadu (South India) in 1974. A “carnatic brass band” with percussion and a squeaky, clarinet-like sound. The percussion is especially good and can just snake on and on. I really like the interplays between the performers and the way the ragas take you on a complete journey. All good. 1. Only :39 seconds, a brassy taste of waltz. *2. Light and catchy w/long perc solo. Great fun. 3. Slower a first, then more lively with nice interplays. Head nodding. *4. Deliciously wandering into some upbeat percussion/blowing. Great 5. Nearly 30 min. Starts w/perc follows a wild, unrestrained path. *6. Almost a klezmer/bellydance blend. Upbeat & fun. *7. Too short w/an upbeat sway. Great energy. *8. Playful, childlike sing-songy sound. Upbeat. 9. Upbeat, rhythmic, great energy. Wild but controlled. Good stuff. |
