“Dream-pop” band with super-sweet melodic vocal style and a sound that is often compared to the Flaming Lips. On this album, it seems like the members of Mercury Rev have really embraced a much more electronic sound, throwing out the drum kit and relying on layered electronic beats, blips, and bleeps. Definitely an ambitious album, with a lot competing sounds that sometimes come together really well and sometimes make things a little chaotic. Start with starred tracks
FCC Clean

1) Light, up-tempo track with hints of Flaming Lips
** 2) Song about butterflies – featuring melodic vocals over glitchy electropop-beat
** 3) Almost krautrock feel to it (eg kraftwerk), repeating chanted verse, with lots of weird electronic sounds
4) Simple vocals break into loud and chaotic electronica
5) Instrumental track with ambient sounds / no percussion
6) Singing over lots of random electronic sounds, talking at 2 minute mark
*** 7) ‘Epic 7 min song, ends with a bang
8) Handclapping rhythms, loose composition
9) Reminiscent of flaming lips with driving rhythmic section in the middle of the track
