Ragnar of Ravensfjord Reviewed 2008-12-09 | ||
Raging Swedish Death Metal with giant riffs and deep vocals. A liberal dose of Morbid Angel and early Entombed/Grave – thereby mixing the elements of US & Swedish Death Metal and bringing a little of their own in the mix. The band features Mikael Åkerfelt of Opeth along with members of Katatonia & Witchery. Overall a solid release. ((((1))))) Blasting, explosive fairly tech-death with Morbid Angel-like flurries & vocals. ((((((2)))))) Swedish DM with dense & very heavy breakdown. ((((3)))) More fast DM the drumming is a little flat, though but the groove parts are catchy. ((((((4))))) (FCC “fucking” sung once @ 2:44-45) Near carbon copy of Morbid Angel’s “Where the Slime Live” with the slow riffy beginning to the blazing bursts of speed & early 90’s soloing. (((((((5)))))) Insane speed into guttural DM with tremolo picking here & there. (((((6)))) Fairly technical with fast drumming and outward blasting and hard hitting riffs. (((((((7))))))) Slamming, charging, odd-metered at times but plenty of power & awesome very memorable riffs. “Drink from the cup of heresy”. ((((8)))) Chunky riffs and bit of pinch harmonics and some good use of tempo changes & very classic twin leads. (((((((9)))))) Fast & pummeling – a requirement for all crucial Swedish Death Metal. Urrrghttt”! ((((10)))) Steady, heavy groove to some bursts of speed mixed with a bunch of melodic flourishes. ((((((11))))) Speedy & intense with a few stop/starts but mostly straight forward and yes…,Brutal! |
